Safalta is a monthly newsletter - Of the village folk, By the village folk, For the village folk, representing the activities and ethos of the QC Shiksha Kendras running in different villages. The name of the newsletter was suggested by one of the kids of the Kandai Kendra.
The hard copy is on glossy paper and is printed in colour. Every kid and volunteer receives a copy. Over time, it has served many purposes.
- It is an incentive to the children to do their classwork and homework well. Good and creative work and the child’s photo get printed. Kids love to see their work or their photo in print. They show their name/photo or work appearing in print to their folk at home.
- It is a means of appreciating volunteers. They are encouraged when their work or photo appears in print.
- Volunteers and kids also get to learn about all the happenings in the different kendras. Children too get motivated when they see the achievements of volunteers.
- The Kendras learn about one another’s activities and can emulate what they like. Besides basic education, these activities could range from imparting tailoring skills to young ladies, to music, carpentry, electronic assembly, organic farming, tree plantation, telemedicine, quality circle activities, etc. that the children or young volunteers take up.
- It serves as a text for the purposes of the Hindi reading or dictation or comprehension classes, EVS and general knowledge.
- It serves as the text for the scholarship test for volunteers. This is to ensure that they read it.
- At times it carries the work of the children of KK Academy in English. The rural kids' touch with English is kept up with this.
- It serves to introduce and welcome new members or Kendras who join the movement and announce schemes and programmes of Samoohik Prayas.
- The editorials are thought-provoking, as editorials usually are. They are on topics connected with education of kids or topics of interest to volunteers in moulding their lives for a better future.
- Friends, well-wishers, and acquaintances are kept informed of the progress of the movement. They don't receive the hard copy. They receive the PDF version through email, or WhatsApp
- Helps to chronicle the progress of the Movement.
